Why sleep is important

HOW much sleep does one need?
It all depends on the individual. Under the best of conditions in terms of sleep, good ventilation, supportive mattress, privacy and cleanliness, you will stay asleep as long as your system calls for it; then you will wake up. Age, general physical health, work routine and environment are other determining factors. Some people do fine with four to five hours of sleep. Others need more.
There is really no such thing as oversleeping. You automatically wake up when the purpose of sleep is fulfilled. However, there certainly is such a thing as undersleeping. For some reason, sleep does get sacrificed. Each one should determine how much sleep one needs.

The old adage, ”Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” seems to fall on deaf ears in our times. Sleep is a biological necessity of life. If you jeopardise your sleep for whatever reason, you are undermining your health and safety. Quality and quantity are both important.
In today’s world, with late hours and deadlines, there is less time for sleep. As a result, bad decisions may be made and more problems created.
For sound sleep, detach from everything and contemplate on thoughts like: Knowing that the ups and downs of life are opportunities in disguise, I accept the journey at hand, I thank the people who help me to realise and define my strength.

Thought for reflection:
Before you go to sleep, detach yourself from everything and give your worries to God.
